Artist's Biography

Laura Quincy Jones is a local Cambridge/Somerville artist, illustrator, writer, teacher, urban grower, and adventurer who recently spent three years living and working on organic farms throughout Australia, and elsewhere.

These paintings and prints are part of her illustrated travel narrative, Open Road: Life Illustrated on Australia’s Organic Farms, which she is presently working on publishing as a book of illustrated non-fiction for adults, and in short-form articles.

In addition to Australia, Laura has also lived in recently in Japan, St. Petersburg, Berlin; and previously in the UK and New Zealand.  Prior to her recent travels, she taught English literacy in inner-city public high schools in Oakland, CA and Boston, MA for seven years.

As an artist, Laura has produced several major series of cityscapes and architectural studies based on Boston/Cambridge and Prague, primarily in watercolor and monotype print media.

Now back home in Cambridge, she focuses on work as a professional artist, leading art workshops and classes, and publishing works of visual storytelling including articles based on her travels in Japan, Russia, and Australia.  She also teaches adult literacy, organizes community groups and events around urban farming and sustainable food systems with her neighbors, cultivates her own garden and creative city home, experiments with fermentation and other home-made projects, and finds adventure in every day.
